  1. Far be it from me to want to whine about a GJM release. But I was wondering why this one is in 4:4:4 HEVC 10? I trust the encoder, as I’ve watched several of his encodes for other anime, and loved the results. But I’m only a watcher and was wondering what are the benefits this format provides. Hoping to learn.
(My Shield chokes on it, but my laptop works fine. Just the laptop screen is smaller than my TV.)

    • Hello! Long story short, 420 isn’t enough for sharp lineart like Bisque Doll.
There are a lot lines especially on hair that got discolored and the chroma bleeded because of it, as 1 chroma pixel has to make up for 4 luma pixels.
I knew for the start there would have been people against this decision but I felt like it was needed, it’s also my first 444 release (I was tempted to with Girls und Panzer das Finale 3, which has similar issues).
I’m sorry your nvidia shield chokes when decoding it.
      Anyways, have a nice day!

      • Hi! Thank you very much for the explanation (and the attention to detail in your encode)! Not that I have any credibility to judge, but I think you made the right decision. I’m looking forward to watching the rest of the season! Especially now I realize I can simply connect laptop to TV if I want to watch it on the big screen. :)

  2. New show! Wish all the best for you guys. Really hoping things will turn out awesome this time :)

    • Our releases include a lot of complex softsub typesetting. Non-mpv setups, or low-spec devices with mpv setups, might struggle unless the file is hardsubbed.
