Yakusoku no Neverland – Episode 12

Man, what an ending. I can’t wait for season 2 to come in 2020.

    • We’re finalizing some parts and making sure we’re ready for Spring, should be a post up in the next day or two.

  1. couldn’t really wait for your release but gonna rewatch it, thanks for your hard work.

My only issue with your releases is Emma’s speaking editing. I’m not gonna bother discussing it since you already did on nyaa and here some weeks ago, and I could stand it since it didn’t really detract that much from the experience, but it got annoying during lenghty speeches.

Hope you’ll tone it down for the next season (if you’re gonna pick it up).

    • There’s one thing I probably want to change, really, which is my choice to contract “the”, which in lengthier speeches came off a bit tacky, but the shortened verbs and contracted “and”/”them” did, I think, remain tasteful enough even in longer sections.

That, with the aforementioned adjustments, will carry over to the second season unless Emma’s dialect changes in spoken audio by then.

  2. If they’re going to adapt the entire Goldy Pond Arc for the second season (meaning it will likely be 24 episode long), it will probably disappoint you. The first season is largely carried by Isabella’s dominating presence, but there hasn’t been an antagonist (or a character at all) of her magnitude ever since. Goldy Pond’s antagonist is, well… a default shonen psychopath bad guy pretty much, and plot contrivances which could be overlooked in the beginning start piling up real bad. :\

Anyway, thanks. Looking forward to the Spring plans. Hope you’ve picked up either Sarazanmai or Senryuu Shoujo—the two shows I’d nominate for the GJM treatment, albeit for slightly different reasons.

    • Asenshi announced Sarazanmai… And I’m still waiting for someone to announce Bocchi.

      • Cool, thanks for the head’s up. I suppose it’s in good hands then!

      • Apparently DDY have announced Bocchi, so that one is also safe. Hopefully somebody picks up Senryuu; it’s a pretty sweet manga and an interesting translation/typesetting challenge.

        • Wait, apparently DDY and GJM both have announced it. And separately from each other, i.e. it’s not a collaboration this time! Not sure what’s going on here.

  3. Thank you for a great sub for a great series!
Waiting for Spring plans and hopefully you guys will still sub until season 2 2020!
    again, thank you!

  4. Oh, and I have some feedback on wording at 06:44 and onwards: you cannot “cross a cliff” because a cliff is a single rock face that doesn’t imply anything on its opposite side; it’s something you scale or climb up/down. *Crossing* is traveling through the space between two opposing surfaces—something you encounter in a chasm (canyon, ravine, crack, crevice, breach, moat, trench…) or on a mountain range (ridge, chain…).

Right afterwards, at 06:57, there’s another dubious choice of words: “chancing a cliff”. Cliffs aside, chancing (other than being an awkward, archaic word a kid would never use) implies putting oneself *at the mercy of chance* when going for some outcome, such as by randomly choosing or stumbling upon a solution. But this is not what the kids are doing: they are trying to come up with *methods*, and achieving something by method (for which they train and prepare) is basically an antithesis to achieving it by chance. In that context, the simple “That crossing the [chasm] would be too risky” works much better, but I get that you likely didn’t want “crossing” used in two adjacent lines. Some of the options are using “going over” in the first line or rewording the second.

  5. Woohoo!

Thanks so much for all your hard work!

    Looking forward to next season!
