Kaguya-sama: Love is War – Episode 08

I remember asking for Episode 8 to be friendlier. Fuck you Japan.

Rest of the eps should follow in due course, we’ve been working on them in parallel where possible.

  1. Thank you! If I happen to find anything (though I sincerely hope not to from all the hard work the team put in), I’ll have a follow-up comment.

  2. Thank you again for your amazing work. I’ll always wait for your releases. Even if it sometimes takes time.

  3. Thanks. There was one line at 22:01 that clashed a little bit with what we know about Kaguya’s character: “She’s always honest with herself”, considering there are multiple occasions in the story where we see Kaguya being anything but “honest with herself”. Of course, this might just be a gravely mistaken observation on Shirogane’s part—but then again it’s rather presumptuous of him to claim as much, considering they aren’t even at the emotional distance of good friends at that point, so he has no way of gauging her honesty with herself.

I wonder if using “earnest” here would both be a better word choice for her character (there’s no doubt that she IS very earnest) and more accurate in terms of translation—after all, that is the exact personality trait Shirogane is describing in the next couple of lines. This word avoids the unwanted contradiction of “honest” as it describes a slightly different domain of a person’s thought and decision-making processes; e.g. one can put a sincere effort and have a sense of duty towards some cause (thus being earnest, which can be gauged by a reasonably close observer) while deluding oneself about its goals or benefits to avoid dealing with uncomfortable truth (thus being dishonest towards oneself, which would require being extremely close to a person to pick up on). This combination is actually extremely common.

  4. Thank you for your hard work, I don’t mind waiting longer for your version.
