Good Job! Media – Fall 2016

Held this one somewhat to the death with regard to posting it, but hey, here you go, everyone.

So far, we’ve confirmed Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku as a Fall 2016 pick. Who doesn’t love that there’s another magical girl show with a weird twist? Here’s hoping it does okay. We’ll determine whether keeping this on AT-X is worthwhile or not, depending on whether the first episode contains any content that might be censored. Doubt it though.

Next up on the list is Flip Flappers. There was a lot of interest from various staff members for this, largely for sakuga reasons. This show will be a joint with DameDesuYo. We look forward to working with their shared staff for this show!

Last, but not least, is Girlish Number. Unless any changes to the simulcasting schedule from this show are made (read: CR picks it up instead of the shitlords at TAN who currently have it on a 6-day delay), this will likely be an original TL. I don’t know what to expect from this kind of show, but I’m looking forward to working with the staff of this project.

That’s everything for now, but we’ll be tweeting out future releases and other useful news, so be sure to follow us at @goodjobmedia on Twitter!

Hope you’re looking forward to our Fall 2016 picks!

  1. Hope Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku turns out as good as Yuuki Yuuna. Hope one of your other picks is either 3-gatsu no Lion, Flip Flappers, Trickster, Shuumatsu no Izetta or Natsume Yuujinchou Go. All have potential to be great it seems going by the staff and trailers.

    • Agreed on Sangatsu no Lion. It looks promising, plus it looks like the type of anime GJM would pick.

          • That’s why no good shows are left and GJM has to sub Magical Girl Light Novel shit, right?
…of course there are Yuri on ice and Girlish Number left that are good shows.

          • Fite me
In your eyes yuri on ice is fujoshi bait
In my eyes it is a show about very specific sports, with a very distinct style due to Sayo Yamamoto planning the whole thing. She is one of the most remarkable directors.

          • Well, it actually is fujoshit. And you make it sound like ice skating is some underground shit that few people know about. Disappointing tbqh fampai

          • m8 there aren’t a lot of ice skating anime out there. Well, Pretty Rythm is exists, but it’s just ice skating for the lulz. Yuri on ice is serious shit. It even got support from a (former?) professional ice skater (which really helped the animation crew), and the overalls are designed by a major supplier of this sport.
Also, you get triggered by fujoshit too fast. I’m sorry for you that you can’t enjoy stuff like Free or Haikyuu. Yaoi implications can be as much fun as Yuri can be. Just release yourself from gender boundaries. Nowadays, I enjoy shounen ai even more than shoujo ai in terms of comedy.
At last, I have to tell you, don’t think so superficial. Like, behind the fujoshi bait, a miracle of splendid character building, character interactions, and storytelling may emerge. (which isn’t very unlikely since Sayo Yamamoto a best)

          • >implying I don’t like Haikyuu

Now you’re just trying to excuse Free from being a shit cartoon just because it’s fujoshit. M80 please leave go back to /y/ you’re grasping at straws.

          • Gosh… I don’t know what to say anymore. You make me sad.

Shounen Ai and Shoujo Ai are basically the same. The former is with dicks, the latter without.
It’s like the difference between lasagne bolognese and spaghetti bolognese. It both tastes the same.

          • So I guess water and whisky both taste the same because they’re both liquid, right? M80 don’t leave /b/ again please

          • Fuck you, Cezar.
            Your arguments are nonsense.
Kill all white straight men, so we defeat patriarchy.

    • Oh nice, you ended up picking up Flip Flappers with DDY. (y) Visually it’s rather unique and looks great, just hope the rest ends up good as well.

  2. The ones I’m looking forward to that haven’t been claimed by any high-profile groups (to my knowledge) are Nanbaka and Drifters. Asenshi will most likely take the 2nd season of Bungo Stray Dogs since they have subbed the 1st, and Commie seem to be taking 3-gatsu no Lion and Natsume Yuujinchou Go. I don’t have any high expectations for the rest of the season. If it’s anything like the rest of 2016′ seasons, there will be 2-3 actually good shows and a lot of pretty but ultimately forgettable timetable filler.

    • >if it’s anything like the rest of 2016′ seasons, there will be 2-3 actually good shows and a lot of pretty but ultimately forgettable timetable filler

      Every season ever you mean.

      • I actually felt like there was a certain period when the average quality was a tad higher. Around 2011 perhaps? Well, might just be my imagination.

For 2016 in particular, I feel like none of the shows have said anything new in their respective genres, or otherwise transcended the medium. If something like Re:Zero is to be considered anime of the year in terms of rating and popularity, that’s hardly a successful year imo. I mean, the show is good and goes all out to appeal to a very wide audience, but it’s hardly a historic landmark that will be fondly remembered and debated 15–20 years from now (unfortunately, neither is BokuMachi, which got my hopes up but ended up remarkably consistent in getting worse towards the end despite the best efforts of its director).

Even though idea regurgitation has always been present in anime, it’s disappointing to see it proliferate so much at the top of the ratings in the last couple years despite the incredible variety of subjects, genres, and artistic styles the medium has seen. It does look like it needs more experimental stuff that says something new and/or subverts the audience’s expectations instead of directing the best efforts towards precisely meeting them Hollywood-style.

  3. DDY/GJM Flip Flappers joint? Yay, even more hype for this season! \o/ Flip Flappers animation does look pretty nice, I hope it turns out decent.

*Hopes your guys’ third pick is Classicalloids, Nanbaka, or To Be Hero*

  4. All hail gjm. ›ö,ö‹
OT question: why does everyone link to MAL instead of anidb?

  5. > Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku
    > Once I transform, I’m completely female.

Way to ruin what seemed like a good show.

  6. By the way do you know anyone working on The Anthem of the Heart or is there a chance you’ll pick it up as a slow project?
